This $400 million major project comprises the redevelopment of the former Kew Cottages site into a new integrated residential neighbourhood. TGM provided civil and structural engineering and survey services for this award winning project. TGM staff managed all on site activities as well as project management and contract administration. Survey services included subdivision, construction setout, and feature and level surveys.
Over the last 8 years, the TGM engineering team has worked closely with the client, Walker Corporation, to provide innovative engineering outcomes on this award winning development. Incorporation of WSUD features have been considered in the design of the site since its inception. The use of rain water gardens within the site and a bioretention basin to serve the function of reducing stormwater impact of the site and discharging clean water to the existing drainage systems and waterways.
The TGM civil and hydraulics team worked closely with the client and landscape architects, Murphy Design Group (MDG), to deliver best practice stormwater systems. The site is designed to retain significant volumes of stormwater during large storm events, which is slowly released via a bioretention basin that captures and treats pollutant loads generated off the site. Ultimately the downstream receiving water of the Yarra River shall benefit from the cleaner stormwater runoff. The site is very steep and designing the stormwater system and landscape to integrate into the existing landscape proved a challenge that both TGM and MDG. Much of this space is highly attractive and passive for those who live in the area.
TGM has worked with Walker Corporation over the full cycle of the redevelopment of the former Kew Cottages providing professional and competent engineering, survey and drainage solutions. TGM has a strong, stable and experienced team of staff who have continually added value to the project through quick thinking solutions to the benefit of the project.Brad Evans, Planning Manager, Walker Corporation
